People Person

Ask my friends, they will tell you. I like who I like and I don’t like who I don’t.

But, guess what? I AM a people person. I network, I take the time to understand and I put the effort in with people… even when I’d rather be catching up on MAFS and not responding to emails.

Recently I found myself sitting with a friend who was having a moment of, should I change careers? It was a massive decision, they would be moving from a big name in marketing and corporate partnerships to HR… the debate was on as to whether they really could work with the ultimate product; people.

It’s totally different right? Well, not really…

Here’s where people discount their skill set. Being a people person, knowing your audience, really understanding what it is you are doing for them, that is one of if not the most important set of skills you can have as a professional or business owner. The best part is, these skills can be transferable, understanding what makes people tick as well as get ticked off will give you a seat at that table you’re chasing.

No matter what you are selling, serving, offering, advising on or building – you are in the business of people so get use to it… now is the time to understand the people that keep your business afloat, whether it be a corporate partnership deal with foreign execs or holding interviews for the next intern.

Don’t underestimate the power of being a people person and the skill set that comes with it.
